Committee news

AGM 2022 Wednesday 2nd March.

As we move into a New Year the Management Committee for Brede Village Hall thought it would be helpful to let you know what we have planned for 2022.

You may be aware that the refurbishment of two of the smaller rooms in the hall is underway. Both rooms are being redecorated and the larger of the two will continue to be available as a meeting room. In remodelling the smaller room we are creating a space that can be used by local businesses to provide services to the local community. Both rooms will be available for hire via our website.

Moving forward in 2022 we intend to develop a programme to refurbish other areas in the hall. It will not be possible to complete a full refurbishment this year due to the limited availability of funds and of time as it will not be possible to take the main hall out of use for an extended period. So careful programming will be required.

The hall continues to be used by a number of regular groups. These groups are very popular and welcoming to new members, details of the groups and their contact details can be found on the website. The hall is also a popular venue for occasional users hosting parties and events such as the annual exhibition of art and crafts. Following a review of our usage we can now accommodate inflatables such as bouncy castles. The stage continues to be available for use as does the associated lighting rig.

The ever popular Farmers Market continues on Friday mornings but now under new management. Whilst it was held in the carpark for a large part of 2021 it has now moved inside with appropriate arrangements put in place to ensure that it is held under the current Covid regulations. We believe that the market contributes to supporting the community and we hope to reinstate the tea and coffee very soon.

As with all community facilities funding can be difficult to find. We raise our funds from a number of sources such as hire of the hall, profit from the tea and coffee sales at the market and fund raising actives such as the quiz night to be held for our benefit by the Broad Oak pub on the 9th March 2022. There are a number of other areas we could do more in, for example making more use of the website or having more fund raising activities. However, our ambition is limited by time and the availability of people to help out by working on the committee. So if you have some spare time and would like to contribute to the development of the Brede Village Hall and to support the local community please get in touch with our Committee Secretary Sue. (E mail address is ).

The Management Committee is looking for willing residents of Broad Oak and Brede to take the Hall forward. We are looking for a Chair and a vice chair with a least 4 hours a month to offer the hall. We would also like to find a new Treasurer before September as the current one has new projects she needs to commit to by then. If you can help with any of these roles the committee will be happy to welcome and support you. Please email the Secretary (email address below) if you are interested.

Thank you to the Broad Oak public house for hosting a quiz night for our benefit. The committee will be working to developing the hall and its facilities and look forward to your support either directly by joining our committee or indirectly by supporting activities at the hall.

The Management Committee

Committee Meeting: Wednesday 6th October at 7pm

As it was our end of year the Treasurer had looked at our income against our spending. Unfortunately the expenditure was greater each month there for it is realised that we need to:

a) Attract more regular bookings during the week

b) Attract more one-off events and parties

c) Consider raising our prices in line with neighbouring halls in 2022

d) Do more fundraising as a committee

To attract more regular users we have started a maintenance programme.

So far we have resealed the main hall floor and replaced 2 window panes. Next we will be turning the unused Doctors' Surgery into a Treatment Room. We hope to have this ready by the New Year and it will be ideal for those looking for a space to hire to carry out treatments ranging from beauty to chiropody, Reiki to counselling, or massage to reflexology. A comfortable space with it's own entrance, a toilet with access directly from the room, its own sinks and free parking. We feel it will be an asset to the hall and a useful commodity for the village especially for those starting out a new business venture or for those wishing to reach more rural locations.

We will also be renovating the Committee Room to make this a welcoming and user friendly space and the toilet and side entrance hall.

To attract more parties we will be allowing bouncy castles once more. We are just writing the policies, forms and altering our T&Cs to make this possible.

The following rates to hire the hall were proposed and agreed and will take effect from 1st January 2022:
